ACCIDENT DETAIL: Wing dropped and aircraft impacted runway. An Italian Air Force officer on board was also killed and a third crew member (RAF) survived.

ACCIDENT DETAIL: Birdstrike during trials which shattered canopy. Crew ejected into sea, pilot survived but navigator drowned.

PURPOSE OF TEST FLIGHT:
ACCIDENT DETAIL: Having completed a long duration tight turn the aircraft zoomed up into a vertical quarter roll pitching slowly over into inverted flight. The aircraft then entered a series of erratic rolls to left and right culminating in a steepening inverted dive to ground impact at some 300kt. The pilot may have suffered the g-loc phenomenon.

PURPOSE OF TEST FLIGHT:
ACCIDENT DETAIL: Pilot was involuntarily ejected from the aircraft probably as a result of part of the ejection seat operating mechanism being distorted by an unsecured piece of equipment when the pilot lowered the seat. This fired the drogue chute, dragging the pilot out through the canopy. The aircraft flew on and was shadowed until fuel was exhausted.
